“I never teach my pupils, I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.” ― Albert Einstein

I believe that my most important job as a teacher is to create an environment for learning. I enjoy teaching classes that engage with tough topics that arouse emotions, such as race and class. I believe that learning best takes place in safe spaces where difficult conversations can occur.

I view my teaching role as one of facilitator. I want students to come to their own conclusions about the subject, and be able to back up their opinions with credible evidence. I want students to be able to effectively articulate their positions by understanding an argument’s strengths as well as its weaknesses.
